Last year's writing

Since I can do nothing but sort out my stuff these days, I shall now bring order to the fics I wrote last year.
(from miss_morland)
1. First fic
Theatre of War (AD/GG), posted on February 5. I'd been thinking about it since November 2007, in fact, but it took a long time to get out.
2. Last fic
Two snow-themed drabbles (R/S - 'Tranquility', AD/GG - 'Forever and Never'), posted November 22.
3. Kinkiest fic
Eh, I don't know. Clearly I should write more kink this year. XD
4. Fic that was the most fun to write
Probably The Absolute Almost (Nurmengard!Gellert, written in April). I experimented with a previously untried style, and it worked surprisingly well despite the insanity of it all. I practically wrote that story in one sitting, listening to 30 Seconds to Mars. It was like being drunk. (And then I lost my faith in it and had to have it reinforced from the outside before I actually posted, but that's another matter.)
5. Fic that was the most challenging to write
That would be a tie between Theatre of War and Those Faded Old Glimmers (AD/GG, posted in June). Completely different premises, but both were difficult yet enjoyable to write. Both also took me long enough.
6. Best fic written as a gift or for an exchange
Definitely Finality (Remus/Sirius, posted in September) for seilf_emit. I barely made the deadline, but it was worth it!
7. Most well-received fic
Those Faded Old Glimmers, I'd say. The shorter fics usually got a fair amount of attention too (some have even been translated!), but this one seemed to be a favourite. (That one post in grindeldore got me three new friends if I remember right.) Or maybe it's just that I'd been working on it for so long and was glad the feedback wasn't a disappointment.
8. Most overlooked fic
Paradoxically, Theatre of War. Initially the only responses came from my f-list as though there were no other readers anywhere. Comments from others didn't appear until a while later for whatever reason.
9. Fic that came with the best bunny
The drabbles and ficlets are basically plotbunnies come true (I get them done quickly and barely change anything from my original idea, as opposed to the more substantial stories that have time to evolve). I should maybe name With and Against (AD/GG, posted in February), which pretty much jumped me and demanded I write it then and there. As the inspiration for it must have been something that carried over from Theatre of War, I've been thinking of it as a companion piece.
10. Personal favourite of the year
Those Faded Old Glimmers, no contest. Best inspiration, best timing, best context. All the same, I am happy with every fic I manage to complete (this is especially true about Theatre of War since it was the first longer fic I'd written after a period of unproductivity aside from several drabbles and I was damn pleased with it).
11. Fic/idea/fest/pairing you're most excited about for 2009
It's pathetic, but I haven't come up with any new ideas lately. I'd be glad if I managed to finish the stories I've had lying about for over a year (at least three long R/S fics, for example). Yeah, that would be neat.
As a bit of added self-promotion, here's a link to all my fics. I managed to write quite a lot last year, at least by my standards, and it doesn't nearly fit in a meme based on specific questions.

Three. Long. RS fics...? give us some extracts, please? I'd die to read what you've written so far.

on 2009-01-12 08:50 pm (UTC)The problem is, I haven't worked on any of them for AT LEAST a year. I'm afraid to start now because I might just read it and hate my style in them... But at the same time, I still want to finish them. It's a dilemma. *facepalm*

on 2009-01-14 10:08 am (UTC)Too bad - I would have like to read some extracts. Still I do understand you: when looking back at old drawings or illustrations I made, I have to physically restrain myself not to delete them all and for good.

on 2009-01-14 10:20 am (UTC)I'm going to try to finish them, just not sure when. Maybe we should just redo some of our old stuff from scratch and be done with it! XD

Still... you're getting more and more curious about what you wrote. It's been such a while since I last read a RS fic from you. :)

on 2009-01-14 12:32 pm (UTC)I got more interested in AD/GG last year, but I don't think I'd actually abandon R/S. Just need to revive the old stuff somehow...

on 2009-01-14 07:06 pm (UTC)Hey, they still have a bigger fanbase than Albus and Gellert! No way you'd be the only one who still likes them. XD

on 2009-01-15 07:18 pm (UTC)Dunno. Less and less people seem interested in RS. Ah well. *g*

on 2009-01-15 09:06 pm (UTC)Even if that's the case, the community is still fairly active. Grindeldore seems to be having the same problem, but since the number was smaller to begin with...
