Here's a parting gift!

The title is shamelessly quoted from the brilliant RE4 parody, Days of Our Lives. However, I'd like to stress that no associations with incendiary grenades are intended at this time. It just refers to the fact that my right hand indeed comes off and wanders far (I'm so gonna get it for these jokes) and amazingly, I've finished the fic I promised to write on time. For our glorious RE obsession. XD
This fic first came about as a self-prompt. ("When they were young and as innocent as either of them could get..." - yeah, it was too intriguing not to pursue further.) In some ways, it's the opposite of the previous story I posted in this fandom; in some ways it's a direct precedent. It makes sense to me, anyway. inside_the_veil kindly gave me an "official" prompt to go with it, so thanks. I've made good on it, see?
It seems short for how long it took me to finish (especially compared to that other one), but that's mostly because I wrote it in random strokes of genius at 3 AM. Which, predictably enough, required a diligent clean-up at times that were not 3 AM. On another note, I like it entirely too much in Wesker's head.
Title: On a Limited Time
Pairing: William Birkin/Albert Wesker
Rating: Slightly NSFW
Word Count: ~630
Summary: The early stage of Wesker and Birkin's relationship, namely their first attempt at intimacy. The fic itself is drabble-ish in style and just exploring the character dynamic.
Notes: This would take place in 1978/1979, meaning a year or two after they started working together at Umbrella. I haven't gone as far as to have them call each other Bertie and Willie, but I did find the first names more appropriate in context of their ages at the time and the contrast with their later relations (or my perception of them, anyway). Also, I think it's safe to assume Wesker would have worn jeans at least once in his life. (It's not like they don't make them, you know, black. XD) And that he wouldn't have been immune to any and all awkward situations from the beginning of time, even if they were mostly not his fault. Come on, that would just be the easy way out. Character development, etc.

On a Limited Time
Perhaps, all things considered, this was only a matter of time.
If so, it’s irrelevant now. They had gone for a walk at dusk to relax from their endless tasks in the lab, they talked somewhat, and then the ultimate slip came easily. Not even Albert could tell for how long it had been there, brewing just under the surface, ready for discovery and use. When they finally touched standing by the door to Albert’s bedroom, they didn’t speak of it.
They end up in bed as if it were the last resort. For once, Albert doesn’t mind the position he has found himself in, lying on his back, looking up at William expectantly. There are fingers on his shirt, fumbling with the buttons but eventually prevailing. William lowers his head. Mouth on Albert’s neck, he circles one random spot with attention; Albert can barely concentrate enough to keep his eyes open. The room tilts to one side in surreality. His mouth feels dry; swallowing, he feels his Adam’s apple bob up and down against William’s tongue. He can’t resist an involuntary whine. Triumphant, that’s what William looks like when their eyes meet again: he has made the icy facade drop is all he could be thinking. Albert can’t be bothered with irritation now. It’s enough when William finds one spot at his collarbone that actually makes Albert shudder—entitled bastard—and dips his tongue into the central hollow. Teasing, tentative. It is clear that he has never done this before.
Albert just might give him the satisfaction for all his trouble. His hands attach themselves to William’s sides, under his jacket, running up and down in slow strokes. That alone makes William’s breath against his skin come harder. His quickly dissipating composure is quite remarkable. When Albert starts taking off his friend’s shirt, having managed to push him aside slightly, it is all William can do to hold out until it’s been discarded.
And then they kiss. Albert would prefer for it to retain some semblance of refinement, but William pushes past his lips, which makes a dignified approach next to impossible. It’s starting to be almost amusing, Albert finds. If intimacy is what William wants, he can give it to him. That much is not a problem.
For the following few minutes, this will have been his last coherent thought. Before he knows it their still clothed hips are sliding together, denim on skin on sweat, and their faces are aligned in the frenzy and suddenly one of them bites down and Albert’s hand digs into the other’s back as if cramped. He knows for certain that he has bruised. He feels William gasping against him and a hot wetness spreading in the front of his trousers. It takes him a moment to catch his breath.
“So unsystematic,” he remarks dryly then, knowing precisely how annoyed William the Diligent is going to be by this. Surprisingly, no vengeance befalls him worse than a half-hearted shove and a forcibly caustic reply.
“Spare me that. You liked it well enough.” A waft of cool air on Albert’s chest as William sits back on his haunches, observant.
The night is at its beginning. As darkness presses against the windows, so do their bodies, the muscles and the sharp angles, in preparation to strike again. They will have other opportunities to master the system.
With anybody else Albert could maintain a sense of detachment, but William fascinates him. There is one person he has no reason to look down upon. The more he dwells on it—as his trousers are loosened and his socks disposed of, quite systematically now—the more he realizes he and William could achieve. Already he suspects there won’t be enough time.

on 2009-07-11 11:46 am (UTC)afternoonmorning. You know too much. :P But actually, I did first get intrigued by the wording as I wrote the first fic, then got the neck-licking in my head, and then was miraculously smart enough to combine the two. So you're right and I'm right. XD
Agreed. We can put in the crackfic, but no way it would work in serious porn (unless they call each other that in canon, of course. I'd give an arm and a leg to see that).
Still, I mentioned this just for you. XD"Zooming in" was pretty much the effect I was going for! I don't know why, but somehow I find it easy to write Wesker-perspective in present tense. But with random sophisticated words (so as not to only postpone the inevitable?). Or maybe it just fits the atmosphere here better. I tried to minimize exposition as well, and the past tense worked nicely for that. In any case, thanks so much!
*rejoices quietly for the neck-licking* I'm so glad you enjoyed that bit! I guess it goes to show it was the first scene that came to mind. XD Weskerously. As for the ickle William, you're right, plus you know how old he is here? 17/18 (yay ambiguous age). I think that if nothing else, it's not far-fetched to say he hadn't had much experience before (there's no indication either way as far as I know, and it fit nicely into this). Wesker, on the other hand, could have. Never mind that he's two years older. It's not much, but possibly enough for things to have happened.
Sure he can, but he's probably not going to call it "surrender" even then... :P
That's too Wesker, really.
That's the best compliment you could give me on characterization - I hope you know that. Also, MWAHAHA! I love when a fic has the same effect on the character and the reader. XD
Not random at all! The "one of them" was very deliberate. /cunning
Haha, you got me there. So true. But I also think it would take a lot for his researcher side to get pushed aside. Just as much as it would for Wesker's general attitude, so it's all fair. XD
reckon that's the perfect way of answering to Wesker without triggering him off in any wrong way, huh? Bertie has found an equal, I guess...
Yes and yes! Nothing to add here.
Moar pron? ZOMG. *ded*
Use your imagination! By the looks of it, this has triggered quite a bit of it. XD
And I have three weeks to come up with another fic...Hehe, have I just made "the system" good? Who would have thought.
Thank you for this brilliant comment! And they are. That dynamic is really too delicious. WE MUST PERSEVERE! XD
Screw decent thoughts, this is the kind of feedback that makes me happy! But do feel free to obsess some more. XD
Have a great trip!no subject

Try them out yourself? XDYeah, I sadly think not. At least I get to keep my appendages. XD
And again, I'm so glad that worked. This fic had to have some sense of immediacy...
You had a movie of that rolling? Okay, that's awesome. :D The one thing I fear with writing more graphic fics is having them become repetitive - focusing on the overall picture tends to do pretty much that. 'Tis all about the details!
Not at all about the fact that I'm a detail-oriented psycho. XDCeasefire, yes. XD I wonder what the combat will be like after the change... *whistles*
Yeah, I imagine the realization that he's with someone who won't have it with the superiority stuff must be quite earth-shattering for poor Wesker. XD But I don't see any other way that relationship could have been so lasting and benevolent betweem the two of them.
:D
I'm sure it'll thank you in the long run for all the exercise... *inserts the lol smiley as well*
You are? Even in the face of holy fucking England, Batman? *flattered* *enjoystheremoteglomping* *Europe'ssmallanyway*
*hehe, enjoy*

on 2009-07-13 05:59 pm (UTC)Oh well, enjoy your healthy sleeping schedule while it lasts! :P
Walking, for one. *nods*
But my poor ego so needs it! XD
Yeah, I get it while writing, but who am I to know if it affects the reader the same way? Glad it wasn't a traumatizing badfic-style movie, that's for sure. :D And that sounds exactly like it if you ask me.
Like I wouldn't distract you if I wrote more fic! :P
I believe that as well. Boring, yes, and there'd be no accomplishment in it if he got everything he wants the way he wants it every time by default.
I'd never dare underestimate your squeeing abilities! And well, external brain is external. It'll be less distantly so eventually. :D
*yay for nice obsessive walks! Is the neighbourhood nice there? No, not envious at all, of course XD*

on 2009-07-14 01:29 pm (UTC)How come you walk home that far? I know I did an insane amount of walking myself when I was there, but if I just wanted to get home, I took the bus... Anyway, I'm glad if that system suits you! :D (Lend it to me! XD I know it's one of those significant titles that keep popping up here and there, so I'd probably have gone for it sooner or later. Should I ask if you love it or hate it so far, or don't you want to skew my perception? :P)
Yeah, you promised me that waterfall-type place, for one... *reminds you*
Ego: *purrs*
Hey, just that we get it doesn't have to mean everyone else does! XD But yeah, it's probably pretty common. And some stories just really invite it.
I can imagine. It's only a matter of time before I come up with something more, don't worry... XD
That's just it. He can push people around enough without them making it easy on him! XD
Your external brain will certainly appreciate that! As will mine, I presume. :P
*Ah, I see. The family I stayed with lived pretty far from the centre too, but yeah, the place was nice. Take those pics, maybe I'll recognize something! XD*

on 2009-07-14 04:11 pm (UTC)Then that's awesome. I feel relaxed after walking too (or even working out in one way or another), so I know what you mean. And there's the added bonus of walking around Oxford... (Yeah, I think I know what you mean. Then I just might enjoy it!)
You know... that driving licence I have is international, cough cough. We don't have to pester your parents if they turn out to trust me enough? XD
*you're creating a monster here, I hope you're aware of that* :P
Heh, I suppose you've nailed it. And since I'm all for the "going deeper than the story" thing, bring it on! XD
*I heard that!*
And Wesker likes his fun. *cough*
It just might! Either that or bluescreen the universe. *nods*
*can't wait to see them*

on 2009-07-15 12:11 pm (UTC)I get that too sometimes - no problem while I'm walking and so on, but then I sit down and pain pain pain. XD At least you know you'll be okay during most of the days?
Aw, I see. I can imagine she'd need the car around in that case, yeah. Whatever ends up being a working solution, then?
I guess we can't just walk there. XDNo problem, we'll be like in that Lordi song: Monsters Keep Me Company. XD
Yeah, I suppose it'd be a waste of time to come up with "author is a flaming queer" in this case. It's useful in academia, though? All edgy and stuff. XD
If it does, the external drives must survive! What's the point of having them otherwise? :P

Okay. We can beg if we have to! XDNow I'm tempted to listen to that song! Even at the risk of
rediscovering my inner monster. XD (Okay, maybe I shouldn't...)OH NO YOU DON'T. XD And indeed, you shouldn't have. Haven't you noticed how much "good" it did people in the nineteenth century?
I... didn't think about that aspect of it. XD I guess it's either that, or we manage to prevent that system crash!

on 2009-07-16 04:34 pm (UTC)It happens to me too when I'm going around most of the time - I either forget to drink or can't be bothered to drag bottles around. Last time it did me no good, let me tell you...
Okay! I'm sure I'll survive till then. XD
Gah, that sucks. I forgot he was the one who gave you a worse grade for postmodernist geekiness...
(You mentioned. XD)
That's always a nice back-up plan! XD

on 2009-07-20 05:33 pm (UTC)I assume you've fixed that problem by now! XD Yeah, pretty much. I thought I didn't need to bring water since we'd stop at some restaurant as they always insisted on doing, but it took way longer than expected...
I'll definitely try. XD
Yeah, that's one convenient thing to consider! Just that easy course you're having.
XD

on 2009-07-21 02:36 pm (UTC)Seriously, you have to buy a little in advance! And there I thought with less than ten days left you'd have worked out a system to deal with the water shortage... XD
YOU HAVE NOW CONDEMNED YOURSELF TO LETTING ME READ IT! Really, that's badass.
